About Us

Linden Hills United Church of Christ is an Open and Affirming congregation nestled in the quaint Linden Hills neighborhood of Southwest Minneapolis. We are traditional in our service yet theologically progressive in our values. We engage in spirited worship in a family-oriented setting where children are welcome and included. Our Sunday worship includes exceptional music on piano and organ as well as an energetic choir where all levels of music ability are welcome.

We are a growing congregation with a small-church charm where people know and care about each other and fellowship extends beyond the church walls. Our membership is approximately 200, and we enjoy a good balance of children and younger members coupled with experience and maturity in a substantial list of long-time members. We are Open and Affirming, welcoming people of all races, religions, and sexual orientation into our congregation.

We offer engaging education programs for all ages.  Our new Sunday School curriculum uses a rotational model which allows children to explore each story or theme in-depth using a variety of methods including books, music, games, drama, art and video. At times, participants learn by dressing, cooking and creating as people did in biblical times. Our youth enjoy Sunday morning ‘Breakfast Club' where they meet to discuss life issues, hear interesting speakers, or plan for upcoming events. They have been active in numerous community service projects in the Twin Cities area such as Urban Immersion and Save Our Starving Children. Summer mission trips have provided our youth with the opportunity to live, learn and serve together doing God's work in other areas of the country. Adult Education can be experienced in periodic bible study sessions, book clubs, presentations and speakers, as well as special seasonal offerings.

Linden Hills UCC is a congregation that responds boldly and faithfully to human need. This congregation has responded generously to disaster relief efforts with monetary assistance and needed supplies following the 2004 tsunami, hurricane Katrina, the September 11 terrorist attacks and countless other disasters over the years. We have worked with the Minnesota Council of Churches refugee resettlement committee to sponsor 3 different families from the war-torn countries of Ethiopia, Bosnia, and Sudan. We helped them get to the United States, find housing, employment, schooling and medical care.
After hurricane Katrina, we helped bring a couple from New Orleans to
Minnesota to start a new life after losing everything in the flood.

Linden Hills' members are givers. We provide year-around support to Joyce food shelf in Minneapolis, with food and money for perishables. We have worked on projects with Habitat for Humanity and Urban Homeworks to help provide homes for Minneapolis residents in need of affordable housing. We are an active member of TRUST, an ecumenical organization, which provides various services for the elderly and those in need in the Minneapolis area. We support our UCC missionary and service efforts through OCWM as well as several special offering requests throughout the year.

At Linden Hills UCC we actively strive to make our city, state and country a better place by working with organizations that encourage justice for all through value-driven legislation and policymaking. We support the efforts of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition (JRLC), an interfaith legislative advocacy organization which strives to further the cause of social justice in Minnesota by proposing and promoting responsible legislation. We are a pilot church in the Renewing the Public Congregation demonstration of
the Minnesota Active Citizenship Initiative, an organization working within
all areas of public life to promote civic renewal and encourage governing
for the common good.

In 2002, Linden Hills UCC celebrated 100 years of ministry on the corner of 42nd and Upton. We recently completed a successful capital campaign to accomplish needed maintenance to our historic church building, support multiple projects with Habitat for Humanity and provide impetus for the call of an associate minister. We have a substantial endowment that has been utilized for a wide variety of projects. It has been skillfully managed to maintain a balance exceeding the original gift.

We feel we have a bright future in God's Grace, sharing the gifts of ministry and Christian love with all people.  Please join us.
